Empty Filter Options: Filtering out all OTHER Empty Filter Options

Written by the Divi Engine Documentation Team

Introduction

In this documentation, we will be discussing a scenario where we manage empty filter options in Divi Ajax Filter, specifically the ability that allows active or clicked filter items to remain unfiltered even if there are empty options within the clicked filter option. This can help users more easily find what they're looking for and avoid getting siloed into different products or processes. We will walk you through the steps to activate this feature in the backend and provide suggestions for additional settings to improve user experience.

Steps to Remove all other Empty Filter Options

  1. Access the filter module settings: Go to your form, find the filter module, and edit its settings.
  2. Set the update method: Ensure the filter method update method is set to "on change".
  3. Set "Update filter count and empty options for clicked item" to "NO": This is the default for this setting, but just double check.
  4. Display filter count (optional): As a convenience, if you have a checkbox radio field, make sure to display the filter count under the Checkbox / Radio tab. This helps users know how many options are available.
This setting ensures that the first filter option a user clicks remains intact (nothing in that field is filtered or removed) while filtering out empty options in the other filter fields. For example, if a user clicks on a category first, Divi Ajax Filter will check if the clicked category has specific tags or colors, and any empty tag or color options will be removed. The same applies when a user clicks on a color first; all colors will remain intact, while tags and categories with empty options will be removed.
