How Do I Update My Plugin?

Written by the Divi Engine Documentation Team

Introduction

Follow these steps to learn how to update your plugin.

Step 1: Update On A Staging Website

If you are able to create a staging website of your live website with your host provider then go this route. Updating on a staging website is a much safer option because you can test for bugs while your live website stays functional. Once the update is successful you can push the staging website onto the live website. Please contact your host provider for guidance. After logging onto your staging website make your way to the plugin repository section of your wp-admin and click the update button as seen in the image below.

Step 2: Update On Your Live Website

If you are unable to create a staging website then you will have to update your live website. Before updating make sure that you take at least one backup of your website using a plugin or through your host provider in case the update breaks your website. After logging onto your live website (that has been backed up) make your way to the plugin repository section of your wp-admin and click the "update" button as seen in the image below.

Step 3: My Plugin Won't Update

If you have added your Divi Engine license key correctly then you will get notifications when an update is available. If you would like to manually check for an update then go to dashboard > updates and click on check again. If the update is forbidden and you see an error such as, "An error occurred while updating... No update archive available." then contact our support since there might be a database error that we will need to fix.

Warning

Do not delete your Divi Engine plugin to then upload the newest version manually since you will delete your settings.
